[title title=”Jose and May”]

Where did it begin?

Jose and May met each other dancing Salsa in a night club in Spain and the following day dancing Tango. From the beginning they started falling in love.

The first year they were inseparable, then the second year May decided to continue her studies in another city 400km away, so they were only able to see each other fortnightly. The third year Jose decided to study English, taking a plunge of total immersion and moving to Australia (Brisbane) while May was finishing her final project in Architecture. This was hard on the both of them as the distance meant they only saw each other every 6 months. The following year Jose executed a clever plan to keep them together: he proposed. After they married in Spain, Jose and May came back to Brisbane together to start a new life.[/one_half]

Born in 1983 in Madrid, Spain, May started dancing when she was 3 and from that point no one could stop her… ballet, flamenco, hip hop, jazz, salsa, bachata, tango…they all stole her heart.

May has a Bachelor in Architecture at CEU University in San Pablo, a Bachelor in Interior Design in Madrid and Diploma in Graphic Design in Brisbane. And while Dance is her passion and became her profession 7 years ago, she is still both designer and dancer at heart, unable to give either one up but instead using both talents to build upon and inspire the other.

Dances studies

Since May was tiny she loved to dance, she recalls when her grandmother used to dance Flamenco with her at the kitchen table and believes her grandmother passed on all her love for the music and the culture of the traditional dances. Starting with Ballet when she was 3 years old, Flamenco at 7 years old and performing when she was 12 years old. Later came Hiphop and Jazz.

“My dance life changed when my parents started learning some ballroom when I was 16 years old and that was when I started partner dance. It was just a few lessons until I found Salsa and Bachata, when I was 17 years old. That was the beginning of many nights dancing, a lot of mornings at the uni with few hours sleep for the love of salsa & bachata.

When I was 26 years old I met Jose at a Salsa Club and the day after we were dancing Tango together, literally. Since we met each other we have been sharing the journey of learning together. Tango, Salsa, Bachata and other dance styles such as Milonga, Vals, Cha Cha Cha…it never stops…

Dance Career

May has been performing since she was young. She entered the professional dance world when she and Jose started teaching together 7 years ago. After they settled in Australia they were competing together as a couple; duets and even solos in different categories and competitions, winning across the board.

Move to Australia

Since moving to Australia they have both worked hard together on different dance styles to show their versatility. Their focus and passion is with Tango, they want to introduce this beautiful Argentine dance to the community and inspire other styles to use the technique, elegance and connection that Tango can offer. With this vision you will now find them throughout Australia and New Zealand at congresses, festivals and parties, teaching workshops that inspire through their passion and technique.

“I have built my family, my work and my friends around dance. This is an amazing world that is not going to disappoint you. There is a place here for everybody, a style which will define you, a music to move you and a rhythm that will make you dance on the best stage. Don’t miss this opportunity!” May[/testemonial]
